ASU online engineering graduate programs ranked best for veterans
Arizona State University’s Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering lead the nation in the quality of online graduate engineering degree programs available to U.S. military veterans, according to U.S. News & World Report magazine.
In rankings released May 20, the magazine placed the Fulton Schools of Engineering at No. 1 in offering high-quality online engineering graduate programs that help veterans and active-duty military service members cope with the unique challenges they face in pursuing higher education.
More veterans are going to college than at any other time since the post-World War II era, the magazine reports.
In a news release, U.S. News said the leading programs cited in its rankings offer students both the educational benefits and the flexibility they need to go to school while transitioning from military duty to civilian life, or handling family and work responsibilities while still active in the armed services.
“Our online programs are specifically designed to accommodate the needs of working professionals and engineers who need to pursue their education through a flexible and convenient anytime-anywhere format,” said Jeffrey Goss, executive director of Global Outreach and Extended Education for the Fulton Schools of Engineering.
“We continually strive to develop and expand our resources to provide online students the best technology to aid their studies and the access to faculty that enhances their education experience,” he said.

All of the schools ranked among the U.S. News & World Report Best Online Programs for Veterans are tied to organizations working to improve the higher education experience for veterans.
The programs are offered by educational institutions that are certified for the GI Bill and participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program, two federal initiatives that help veterans reduce the cost of school.
The programs are also affiliated with schools that are members of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Consortium and offer at least one course in the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) catalogue.
By associating with those groups, schools pledge to consider giving academic credit for military training and offer flexibility for online learners taking classes at multiple institutions.
The programs were ranked by considering factors such as affordability, faculty credentials, student services and academic reputation. Only regionally accredited degree-granting programs offering classes that were 100 percent online were considered.
