ASU offers Leadership Certificate program for health care professionals

March 06, 2006

Arizona State University’s School of Global Management and Leadership now offers a Leadership Certificate for Health Care Professionals program. The program is designed to provide health care professionals with a strong foundation in managerial and leadership skills. Participants must register for the program by March 25.

ASU’s Leadership Certificate program was developed in partnership with many of the Valley’s leading health care organizations including Sun Health, Abrazo Health, Team Health and Banner Health. The program prepares health care professionals for a variety of positions that include leadership responsibilities. Participants learn leadership concepts and approaches to health care management using a customer-centered, best practices model of teaching and coaching.

“We are excited about the educational opportunity our new program presents to professionals working in patient-centered services,” said Leanne Atwater, interim dean in the School of Global Management and Leadership at ASU’s West campus. “Healthcare organizations cannot achieve medical excellence without the support of strong leadership, and we are committed to helping the leaders of tomorrow succeed.”

To complete the program, participants must complete five, four-hour modules. Each module is co-designed by an ASU faculty member and a health care professional from a partnering organization. Participants can select from seven different concentrated learning programs that provide a broad base of knowledge in a specific skill set.

Modules cover a wide range of topics including: making customer satisfaction a priority; attracting a retaining a talented and diverse workforce; making ethical decisions; encouraging performance excellence; implementing vision and change; and effective negotiation and management skills.

The cost for the certificate program is $425 per module, for a total cost of $2,125 per person for five modules. Classes begin April 14, and are held at ASU's West campus, 4701 W. Thunderbird Road, Phoenix. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate from ASU documenting their successful completion and two Continuing Education Credits from the ASU School of Extended Education.
