The Department of Finance of the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University will host the inaugural ASU Sonoran Winter Finance Conference, Feb. 24 and 25 in Scottsdale at the Western Kierland Resort and Spa.
The program will be broad, with 10 outstanding papers selected for presentation out of more than 250 submissions, according to Oliver Boguth, who organized the conference along with Yuri Tserlukevich. Both are ASU assistant professors of finance.
Two finance professors from the University of Utah are on the planning committee. Hendrik Bessembinder and Michael Lemmon, both former ASU faculty members, have worked on the program along with faculty from the ASU finance department and a number of other universities.
The conference will be an opportunity for leading scholars from all areas of finance to come together and exchange ideas. Presenters are from a dozen different universities, including Chicago, MIT, USC, Columbia, Duke, Penn and Stanford.
Topics include an examination of the recent financial crisis and an analysis of how individuals make financial decisions. Another presentation will examine the phenomenon of people using their homes as ATMs, and the implications for the economy as a whole.
