ASU to host 'Black Out' for game against Missouri

As the Arizona State University football team unveils its new Nike black alternate jerseys on Sept. 9 against Missouri, Sun Devil Athletics invites all fans attending the game to "Black Out" the stands in Sun Devil Stadium/Frank Kush Field.

Sun Devil fans are encouraged to wear black along with the football team during the nationally televised Pac-12, Big 12 match-up to create a wall-to-wall black atmosphere within the packed stadium.

The Friday night game scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT kick off on ESPN will set the stage for the national debut of ASU's all black Nike alternate uniforms during the primetime college football match-up.

Nike has created an official "Black Out" shirt, which is available for online pre-order now and will be in stores the last week of August. Shirts can be ordered today from Sparky's Stadium Shop at SparkysStadiumShop.com or the Sun Devil Bookstore at SunDevilBookstores.com.

Head Coach Dennis Erickson and the entire Sun Devil Football team is asking the Sun Devil Family to embrace this special event. In a letter to fans in the 2011 Sun Devil Football Fan Guide, Coach Erickson encourages fans to "set aside your game day gold and opt for black instead." Senior wide receiver Mike Willie agrees, "We need our twelfth man in black. September 9th at 7:30, let's black it out in Sun Devil Stadium."

In a nod to the ASU football teams of the past, which wore black helmets, the Sun Devils reincorporated black into the uniform color scheme in conjunction with Nike. Arizona State launched the "It's Time" campaign in April to announce the development a new brand identity, which included, in addition to the new uniforms, the use of the new pitchfork as the primary logo for Sun Devil Athletics.
