ASU hockey team receives kudos for facing challenges head on
Arizona State University varsity hockey has entered into Division I competition, traveling far and wide to develop the respect of the other Pac-12 teams.
On Oct. 29, the New York Times acknowledged the ASU hockey team, congratulating their efforts at the club level and expressing the challenges of facing the opponents in their league. One concern is travel.
ASU hockey needs to travel to places like Alaska, Wisconsin and Connecticut. Every non-home game will have the newly crowned division players to great distances, but the Sun Devils won't let this blue line offset their ambitions.
Coach Greg Powers remained solid to his convictions and loyalty to his team, and complimented Liam Norris, fifth-year forward and team captain, for making everyone around him better.
Powers found an asset with defenseman Brock Krygier.
Formally at Michigan state, now purusing his master’s degree with ASU, understands the challenges and, like his coach, looks forward.
“I knew this wasn’t going to be a walk in the park or all sunshine and roses,” Krygier said to the New York Times. “I’m fine with that. I’m fine with working hard and going through the ups and downs of a season and really establishing a foundation for years to come.”
