SPARKS – Students Providing Awareness, Resources and Knowledge to Start college – is a paraprofessional student organization of college student ambassadors who inspire and mentor junior high and high school students to prepare for and succeed in college.

The students tried to build various devices to generate power by either wind, water or light in Ben Mertz's Intro to Engineering class. Mertz' section was competing against another section to see which class can generate the most total power.

More than 160 student projects from the College of Technology and Innovation were on display as part of the Innovation Showcase, held May 1 at the Polytechnic campus. Landon Breaux demonstrated wearable eye technology that was designed as part of the AMT 410 Aviation Safety and Human Factors class.

Students working with the Arizona Center for Algae Technology and Innovation explained how algae can not only be used to clean Arizona's wastewaters, but can be turned into food, feed and fuel.

Twelfth-graders receive information about ASU at the RECHARGE Conference on the West campus. The 3rd annual Arizona State University RECHARGE conference empowers Native American students in grades 7-12 to take charge of their education and invest in their future and community. The event includes engaging activities and inspiring presentations from a variety of ASU schools and offices, including the Herberger Institute of Design and the Arts, American Indian Student Support Services, the Office of the President for American Indian Initiatives and current ASU students. Topics include college readiness, financial aid and scholarships, college majors and specialized ASU campus resources.

Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Supreme Court of the United States, was joined in conversation by the Honorable Sandra Day O'Connor, retired associate justice, and the Honorable Mary Schroeder, senior circuit judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, as ASU's Program in Justice and Social Inquiry in the School of Social Transformation presented the 15th annual John P. Frank Memorial Lecture.
