ASU Foundation names Van Gorden as new CFO
The ASU Foundation has announced the appointment of Judith (Judy) H. Van Gorden to the position of senior vice president and chief financial officer.
Van Gorden begins her new position Aug. 31. She replaces Chuck Wagner, who is retiring from the foundation Sept. 30.
Van Gorden will report to Craig E. Weatherup, the acting president and chief executive officer of the foundation, and chairman of its board of directors. She will oversee the financial planning and management, accounting, investment and internal audit functions for the foundation, and serve as an adviser to senior management on all governance, compliance and fiscal matters.
Van Gorden comes to the foundation after heading her own consulting firm, New Treasury Solutions, where she worked directly with officers of higher education institutions to identify, adopt and implement innovative solutions to treasury and financial issues.
From 1993-2004, she served as treasurer of the university and chief investment officer for the University of Colorado, where she oversaw more than $800 million of investments and managed $550 million in outstanding debt.
Van Gorden also served as assistant treasurer at Cornell University from 1988-1993; as budget director for the Taylor Wine Co. from 1981-1987; and as senior corporate planner at FMC Corp. from 1977-1981.
Van Gorden holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Purdue University, and a master's degree in business administration in decision sciences from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
“We're thrilled that Judy has decided to join the ASU Foundation team,” Weatherup says. “She brings the required skills, knowledge and experience that we need to move the foundation forward and achieve our goals. I'm looking forward to working with her, and I'm confident she'll be an excellent leader for our finance organization.”
