ASU’s Polytechnic campus to raise food, funds at annual run/walk event

MESA , Ariz. – It’s that time of the year again to register in the Dauntless Drumstix Dash (Dash), a timed 5K road race, a two-mile walk, and a 1/2 mile kids' fun run, on Nov. 18, at ASU’s Polytechnic campus in southeast Mesa.  The kids’ run kicks off the event at 8 a.m., and the two-mile walk and 5K run follow at 8:20 /8:30 a.m., respectively.

The registration fee is $15 through Nov. 10, $18 after Nov. 10, and $5 for the kid’s run. On-site registration begins at 6:30 a.m. the day of the race. All of the net proceeds from the Dash go toward a scholarship fund, which builds a lasting endowment that will help needy students. To date the Dash has raised more than $7,000 for the scholarship fund.

A children's activity hour will be hosted by the faculty from the School of Educational Innovation and Teacher Preparation. Craft activities for runners'/walkers' children will be provided free of charge.  This activity hour allows the serious runners/walkers to focus on their event.

Food and drink will be provided to participants after the race by the Native American student club and the Dash.

Each participant will receive a Dauntless Drumstix Dash t-shirt. And, overall first place male and female winners will receive kachina doll awards, with trophies going to the top male and female age group winners.

Individuals and teams are encouraged to participate and each runner/walker is asked to bring a canned good to the event as part of a food drive for the Boys & Girls Club, Williams Campus Branch.
