Astronaut’s new mission: Inspiring youngsters


<p>See veteran NASA astronaut Bernard Harris <a href="http://www.azpbs.org/horizon/detailvid.php?id=2041&quot; title="Harris interview">interviewed on the KAET-Channel 8 show Horizon</a> on the day he visited Arizona State University to spend time with about 50 Arizona middle school students participating in a two-week summer science camp.</p><separator></separator><p>Harris – a physician, scientist, educator and venture capitalist – talks about space exploration, his experiences as an astronaut and his current mission to inspire young people about what they can achieve through science and engineering.</p><separator></separator><p>He emphasizes the critical challenge of producing more young scientists and engineers to keep the United States at the forefront of technological achievement.</p><separator></separator><p>The Harris Foundation is partnering with the ExxonMobil Foundation to offer science camps for youngsters this summer at 30 universities throughout the country.</p><separator></separator><p>ASU’s Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering was selected as one of the hosts because of its continuing commitment and growing efforts to promote education in science, engineering and mathematics t for K-12 students in communities served by ASU.</p>
