Behind three points from the track and field and cross country programs, Arizona State captured its first-ever Territorial Cup Series Saturday, April 26, when the men’s golf team clinched their point over Arizona at the Pac-12 Men’s Golf Championships.

The score currently stands at ASU 10.5, Arizona 7.5.

The Territorial Cup Series pits the two universities either in head-to-head games between the institutions, such as basketball, or the higher finish in Pac-12 Championships events, as in track and field or swimming and diving. A half-point is awarded if the teams split an annual series, as in women's volleyball this year. The first team to 10.5 points is deemed the winner.

ASU picked up its first full point in the series when the men’s cross country team finished fourth over the Wildcats’ seventh at the Pac-12 Cross Country Championships on Nov. 2.

In March, the Sun Devils extended their lead over the Wildcats to a full three points, 6.5 to 3.5, as both the men’s and women’s track teams defeated Arizona at the 2014 MPSF Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Arizona came within one point with a sweep in the men’s and women’s swimming races, and a point from women’s tennis, before ASU baseball, softball and sand volleyball each won their series,’ and men’s golf clinched the win.

There are still two more points up for grabs in the series, both from track and field. The points will be decided following the Pac-12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 17-18.
