Alumni Association welcomes Martha Byrd as executive director of operations

The Arizona State University Alumni Association recently announced it had hired Martha Byrd as its executive director of operations, effective Oct. 1.

Byrd received a master’s degree in education from ASU in 1997, and has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Springfield (Mass.) College. She has worked for ASU since 1996, and has held positions ranging from assistant residence hall director at Manzanita Hall and academic advisor for the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College to dean of undergraduate admissions for ASU and advisor to the vice provost of enrollment management, her most recent position.

At ASU, Byrd has participated on the Leadership Scholarship Program’s selection committee and is a former chair of the University Recruitment Board. She currently chairs the Arizona ACT Council and is a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling and the Rocky Mountain Association for College Admission Counseling.
Christine K. Wilkinson, president of the Alumni Association, said that Byrd’s background prepared her well to lead the association.

“Martha has a deep well of experience to draw upon and share with the Alumni Association, as we work to unite and serve all alumni and actively support the advancement of the university,” she said. “Her connection with students will bolster our efforts to reach ‘alumni-in-training,’ and her organizational acumen will allow us to pursue new initiatives effectively and efficiently.”
