Three new inductees were welcomed into ASU's Ring of Honor during the Legends Luncheon hosted by the ASU Alumni Association. ASU continued its longest standing tradition, the Lantern Walk on "A" Mountain, Oct. 18. The Lantern Walk began in 1917 as a symbolic passing of the torch from the senior class to the junior class. Fireworks go off after Sparky lights the "A" on Tempe Butte during the 2013 Lantern Walk. Grand Marshal Joe Caldwell rides with Sparky to lead the Homecoming parade, Oct. 19. Caldwell is an ASU Hall of Famer and gold medal olympian. The Sun Devil Spirit Squad marches in the Homecoming parade. The Sun Devil Marching Band performs in the Homecoming parade. The band is recognized as being one of the finest marching bands in the nation. The ASU Alumni Chapters & Clubs group marches in the Homecoming parade. ASU alumni chapters around the world host game watching parties, networking mixers, community volunteer projects and scholarship fundraising to show their maroon and gold spirit. The group's goal is to teach the fundamentals and culture behind capoeira, a Brazilian martial arts form created by African slaves that were brought to Brazil. The Sun Devil Family Association participates in the ASU Homecoming parade. This is the association's 9th year in the parade and they are celebrating three decades of dedicated support to ASU. The ASU classics club Solis Diaboli and honors society Eta Sigma Phi dressed up as Greek and Roman gods for their Homecoming float. The Eight, Arizona PBS Nerd Walk participates in the 2013 Homecoming parade. "Everyone’s a nerd for something and our viewers know that their interests are taken seriously at PBS,” says Kelly McCullough, general manager for Eight, Arizona PBS. This year's Homecoming Royalty members were Cassidy Possehl and Travis Marshall. Possehl is a junior majoring in genetics and cell development biology at the ASU Tempe campus and Marshall is a senior majoring in engineering with a robotics and electrical focus on the ASU Polytechnic campus.
