6 football student-athletes named to Pac-12 All-Academic teams


Six Arizona State football student-athletes have been named to the Pac-12 All-Academic teams, Conference Commissioner Larry Scott announced Tuesday.


Linebacker Brandon Johnson was selected to the first team, while five others earned honorable mention recognition, including quarterback Taylor Kelly, offensive linemenJamil Douglas and Kody Koebensky, kicker Alex Garoutte and linebacker Grandville Taylor.


Johnson (Oakland, Calif.) has a 3.44 GPA and is majoring in sociology. He began his Sun Devil career as a walk-on before being awarded a scholarship in the summer of 2012.


Garoutte (Phoenix) was recognized for the second consecutive year, while Douglas (Cypress, Calif.), Kelly (Eagle, Idaho), Koebensky (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Taylor (San Francisco) earned honors for the first time.


To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
