This week, leading researchers, clinicians and students from across the country will gather in Scottsdale, Arizona, at SkySong, an ASU innovation center, for the fourth annual ASU-Banner Neurodegenerative Disease Research Conference, a two-day event focused on the latest scientific advances in Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and other neurological disorder research.

The conference will take place on Sept. 25 and 26. Conference registration is free and open to the public. Sessions will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.

The event, hosted by the ASU-Banner Neurodegenerative Disease Research Center, based within ASU’s Biodesign Institute, is organized to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration and highlight new findings.

Now in its fourth year, the conference reflects ASU’s growing role in global neurodegenerative disease research. Under the leadership of Jeffrey Kordower, the Neurodegenerative Disease Research Center has become one of the largest science centers of its kind.

“Through research advancements and meaningful collaboration, the Neurodegenerative Disease Research Center is driving breakthroughs in understanding disease mechanisms — especially through investigations into essential nutrients, environmental toxins and viral triggers,” said Kordower in a welcome letter to attendees. “This conference reflects our commitment to educating students and the Arizona community about cutting-edge research and treatment options.”

In addition to research presentations, the conference will offer opportunities for students and early-career scientists to connect with senior investigators and institutions engaged in neuroscience research. Key speakers include Kordower, Joshua LaBaer, executive director of the Biodesign Institute, Piera Pasinelli, professor and director at the Weinberg ALS Center, Kathleen Shannon, chair of the Department of Neurology at the University of Wisconsin, and many more.
