Sara Beaudrie named new director of ASU’s School of International Letters and Cultures

Beaudrie to guide school’s mission of global engagement, language learning, and cultural understanding

Sara Beaudrie, professor of Spanish linguistics, has been named the new director of Arizona State University’s School of International Letters and Cultures (SILC).

Beaudrie previously served as associate director of SILC as well as associate director of graduate studies for the school. She is a nationally recognized leader in heritage language education, innovative program design and student-centered pedagogy. She holds a doctorate in second language acquisition and teaching, with a minor in Spanish linguistics, and a master’s degree in teaching English as a second language, both from the University of Arizona. Her research focuses on heritage language pedagogy, bilingualism, classroom instruction, language program development and critical approaches to heritage language education.

“We are delighted to have Sara Beaudrie accept the position of director at the School of International Letters and Cultures,” said Jeffrey Cohen, dean of humanities at The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at ASU. “Her visionary leadership, deep expertise in language education and commitment to inclusive, student-centered learning will strengthen the school’s mission and impact both locally and globally.”

“I’m honored to step into the role of director,” Beaudrie said. “We have an outstanding team of faculty and staff, and I look forward to working together to support our students, strengthen our programs and continue promoting the value of language and cultural studies at ASU.”

Beaudrie is known for her rigorous, inclusive mentorship and has received several awards. She teaches courses in heritage language pedagogy, program administration and bilingualism, often mentoring students through dissertation projects and professional development. Many of her graduate mentees have gone on to secure competitive tenure-track positions at research universities.

Beaudrie takes a visionary and inclusive approach to teaching, research and leadership, aiming to advance the school’s mission as a hub for global learning, innovation and inclusive excellence. As director, she leads strategic initiatives that improve student academic and career outcomes, promote interdisciplinary collaboration and expand the school’s impact in local communities and the broader global network served by ASU.
