"At ASU, Ivan (Ermanoski) always held me to a very high standard, and I think that really helped because I got used to doing quality work in a quick manner," said Natalie Figueroa, '24 BS physics, who now works as a test engineer II at Collins Aerospace.

Natalie Figueroa, ’24 BS in physics, was in her first year at ASU in Barrett, The Honors College when her mentors encouraged her to become a fellow in Research Professor Ivan Ermanoski’s lab in the College of Global Futures working on a thermochemical reactor for hydrogen production.

After a semester, she was hired as his research assistant because of the quality of her work. Her lab experience helped prepare her for a career in science and engineering.

She is now an engineer at Collins Aerospace, where she has helped create a troubleshooting bot, using machine learning to help employees do their test work more effectively.

“Ever since I was a kid, [growing up in Goodyear] I was like ASU was the place to go,” she says. As a first-generation student, she was unsure about how to become an engineer but says her professors helped her find her path.
