More than 22,000 students are graduating from ASU this spring — some of them defying overwhelming odds — and will get to celebrate by hearing from actor and philanthropist Harrison Ford at commencement on May 11. Photo by Samantha Chow/Arizona State University

This May, thousands of Sun Devils will cross the stage and step into careers shaped by innovation, resilience and real-world experience.

The spring class of 2026 faced unique challenges during their academic journeys including navigating rapid technological change and evolving workforce demands — yet they graduate ready to meet the moment. Lein De Leon Yong had spent her academic career in the humanities with no plans to suddenly shift into AI and computer science. ASU’s interdisciplinary media arts and sciences doctoral degree, however, introduced her to an entirely new way to approach her research in cognitive film theory.
