Wrestling wins season finale over visiting Stanford


<p>Trailing 13-0 through four matches on Senior Day, the Arizona State University wrestling team needed a spark and got just that as senior <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-wrestl/mtt/nye_erik00.html">Erik Nye</a> pinned his opponent to give the Sun Devils their first of six-consecutive match wins and a come-from-behind team victory as ASU downed visiting Stanford, 24-13, on Sunday inside Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe. The win pushed ASU to 9-7-0 on the year and 4-2-0 in the Pac-10 while the Cardinal slipped to 10-8-1 and 2-4-1 in the conference.</p><separator></separator><p>The dual opened at 165 pounds with the visitors taking an early 4-0 lead as <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-wrestl/mtt/deberry_kyle00.html">K… DeBerry</a> dropped a 10-0 major decision to No. 16 Nick Amuchastegui before <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-wrestl/mtt/starks_eric00.html">Er… Starks</a> lost a 5-2 decision at 174 pounds to Jake Johnson to see SU go ahead, 7-0. That lead grew to 10-0 after the 184 match as <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-wrestl/mtt/meredith_jake00.html">… Meredith</a> lost a 5-0 decision to No. 13 Zack Giesen before <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-wrestl/mtt/hawkins_michael00.html… Hawkins</a> dropped an 8-2 decision to Richard Kessler at 197 pounds, putting SU ahead, 13-0.</p><separator></separator><p>Originally announced as a win by forfeit at heavyweight for the Sun Devils, No. 14 Nye walked out to receive his victory when Kyle Hasson stepped onto the mat for the Cardinal.
