Women's tennis team leaves Vegas with winnings


The Arizona State women's tennis team concluded play at the Freeman Memorial Tennis Championships. Held at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, the Sun Devils competed against several challenging opponents to prepare for the dual season that begins next weekend.

Two doubles teams pulled out wins during the final day. The duo of Kelcy McKenna and Hannah James handed UCLA's Carling Seguso and Pamela Montez an 8-3 loss. Micaela Hein and Nadia Abdala pulled out the same score of 8-3 to defeat Veronica Li and Natalie Dillon of Stanford. Sianna Simmons and Ashlee Brown dropped their match 8-3.

Several Sun Devils competed in additional singles matches. Nadia Abdala outlasted Adrienn Hidvegi of UNLV 6-1, 2-6, 5-1 retired. McKenna took her match against Anastasia Revzine to three sets, but fell 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Simmons put up a strong battle against UNLV's Nives Pavlovic, but fell 4-6, 6-4, 7-6.

The Sun Devils open their dual season Jan. 22, hosting UCSB at 1:30 p.m.
