Women's tennis opens up Pac-10 season with WSU, Oregon at home

The Arizona State women’s tennis team (6-2) opens up the conference season as it hosts Pac-10 foes Washington State and Oregon on Mar. 5-6 at the Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe, Ariz.

The Sun Devils traveled to Austin, Texas last weekend where they faced USF and the University of Texas, going 1-1 over the weekend. ASU defeated USF 4-3, while dropping the match to Texas 3-4 after defaulting on the sixth roster spot due to illness.

Senior Kelcy McKenna is ranked 17th in the nation according to the new ITA tennis rankings released Tuesday. McKenna holds a 19-2 record on the season. Freshman Jacqueline Cako, who entered the rankings for the first time two weeks ago, moved up the list to 30th. Cako is currently riding a 13-match winning streak into this weekend’s competition, including a victory last weekend over UT’s 16th-ranked Aerial Ellis.

Washington State is 8-5 on the season so far, while Oregon is 6-4 in 2011. Check back with thesundevils.com for results through out the weekend.
