Women's tennis looking to 'Win Big' at UNLV's Freeman Memorial


<p>The No. 20 Arizona State tennis team travels to the city of neon lights to compete in the talent-laden 2011 Freeman Memorial tournament, hosted by UNLV, Jan. 14-16 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. The Freeman Memorial marks the first event of the New Year for the Sun Devils and the final tournament competition before beginning head-to-head competition.</p><separator></separator><p class="MsoNormal">Along with Arizona State, the field for the tournament features: No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 Florida, No. 5 UCLA, No. 6 North Carolina, No. 19 USC, No. 29 UNLV and Oregon.</p><separator></separator><p class="MsoNormal">Senior <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-tennis/mtt/mckenna_kelcy00.html">… McKenna</a>, who claimed the singles tournament championship at both the Cal Nike Invitational and the ASU Thunderbird Invitational this fall, received the sixth seed for the tournament. McKenna is rated the 34th best player overall according to the current ITA national rankings. Also ranked by ITA are senior <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-tennis/mtt/hein_micaela00.html">M… Hein</a> (74) and sophomore <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-tennis/mtt/james_hannah00.html">H… James</a> (90).</p><separator></separator><p class="MsoNormal">Paired together for doubles competition, McKenna and Hein are seeded second in the tournament and ranked 28th overall by ITA. The doubles pair of James and junior <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-tennis/mtt/brycki_michelle00.html… Brycki</a> is ranked 48th overall by ITA.</p><separator></separator><p class="MsoNormal">Doubles play begins at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday with singles play to follow. Sunday features both the doubles semifinal and final competition.</p>
