Women's tennis to kick off dual season

The Arizona State women's tennis team opens its home dual season this weekend hosting two California teams. The Sun Devils will compete against UCSB at 1:30 p.m., Jan. 22, and play UC Davis on at noon, Jan. 23.

In the rankings
The Sun Devils are currently ranked 30th as a team by the ITA. Kelcy McKenna ranked 58th in singles while Micaela Hein is 68th. In doubles, Hein and Ashlee Brown are 38th.

Who's the new kid?
Hannah James has joined the Sun Devils this semester. Hailing from Birmingham, Great Britain, she brings a handful of international experience. She has been ranked as high as 36th and has represented her home country in several tournaments. This past summer she played in the Wimbledon Junior.

Senioritis
The Sun Devils have two seniors on their roster. Nadia Abdala looks to end her ASU career in the high fashion she began it with. A three-time member of the Pac-10 All-Conference Team, Abdala and her sister Laila advanced to the doubles finals at the Pac-10 tournament last season. She also reached the second round of the NCAA Championship. Abdala's fellow senior, Amanda Martin has earned numerous academic honors for the Sun Devils.

Returning All-Americans
Two Sun Devils emerged as All-Americans last season. McKenna claimed honors in both singles and doubles, becoming the sixth Sun Devil in ASU history to earn honors in both events. Her doubles partner Hein also claimed All-American accolades.

Congrats, coach!
Head coach Sheila McInerney was recently honored by the YWCA in their Tribute to Women campaign. The 26th year head coach has been selected as the Sports Leader honoree. As the head coach of the Sun Devils, McInerney boasts a 373-238 record and has taken the Sun Devils to 18 NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances. Her team is also a regular ITA All-Scholar team honoree.

Next up
The Sun Devils will take part in the ITA Kickoff Weekend next week. They will open against Georgia Tech and take on either either Kentucky or Alabama the following day in Atlanta, Ga.
