Women's tennis drops hard fought match against Duke

The Arizona State women’s tennis team (8-3) dropped a long, hard fought match 5-2 to the No. 5 Duke Blue Devils on Thursday at the Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe, Ariz.

Despite the team loss, several Sun Devils shone individually on the court. Freshman Jacqueline Cako was first off the court for ASU winning 6-1, 6-0 in straight sets over DU’s Nadine Fahoum. Cako, ranked 30th in the nation according to ITA, extended her singles winning streak to 14 in a row.

Senior Kelcy McKenna went into extra sets battling for every point against Blue Devil Ellah Nze. Taking the first set handily 6-1, the senior dropped the second 3-6 only to come back with a 6-3 victory over Nze to take the match.

Next up, the Sun Devils face the seventh-ranked California Golden Bears on Saturday at the Whiteman Tennis Center with doubles play beginning at Noon MT.
