Women's tennis begins season at Cal Nike Invitational
<p>The Arizona State women's tennis team will kick off its 2010-11 season this weekend at the Cal Nike Invitational in Berkeley, Calif. This season marks the 27th consecutive season under the direction of head coach <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-tennis/mtt/mcinerney_sheila00.htm… McInerney</a>.</p><separator></separator><p>The Sun Devils enter the tournament with two ranked players, including senior All-Americans <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-tennis/mtt/hein_micaela00.html">M… Hein</a> and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-tennis/mtt/mckenna_kelcy00.html">… McKenna</a>, who are ranked third and fourth, respectively in the tournament rankings. They will be facing top-ranked teams including California, who boasts the No. 1 ranked Jana Juricova and No. 2 Mari Andersson, as well as ranked players from Arizona, Pacific, and Saint Mary's.</p><separator></separator><p>At last year's tournament, the duo of <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-tennis/mtt/brown_ashlee00.html">A… Brown</a> and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-tennis/mtt/simmons_sianna00.html"… Simmons</a> won their doubles division, but the team of McKenna and Hein fell short in the semifinals. In singles, only Brown and Simmons made it to the final day of competitions, but lost their final matches.</p><separator></separator><p>Play begins Friday, Sept. 24 at 8 a.m. with doubles matches at both the Hellman Tennis Complex and the Channing Tennis Courts in Berkeley.
