Women's tennis beats Oregon to open Pac-10 play

The Arizona State women's tennis team (8-2) defeated the Oregon Ducks, 6-1, sweeping its conference opponents in the opening weekend of Pac-10 play. The Sun Devils are 8-2 in dual play and 2-0 in the Pac-10 Conference.

ASU won the doubles point to start off the match, with the pairs of Cako/Brycki and Hein/McKenna closing out their games with UO, one and two in that order.

No. 17 Senior Kelcy McKenna defeated No. 100 Pavlina Smatova, 6-1, 7-5 in the No. 1 spot for Arizona State. Senior Micaela Hein, playing in the third sport, was first off the court for the Sun Devils, defeating Oregon's Julia Metzger, 6-4, 6-2. No. 30 Freshman Jacqueline Cako also took her match, 6-4, 6-2 over UO's Patricia Skowronski to extend her singles winning streak to 15-straight games.
