Women's tennis advances at NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships
Twelfth seeded Arizona State duo Micaela Hein and Kelcy McKenna came out strong for the Devils today in the first round of Doubles play at the 2009 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships. McKenna, who yesterday fell 6-3, 7-6 in singles play to Duke's Ellah Nze, made a powerful come back with partner Micaela Hein, as the two skillfully upset eleven seed Noelle Hickey and Christy Striplin of Georgia Tech 6-0, 6-3.
Teammate Nadia Abdala, however, saw her season come to an end in the second round of singles tournament play, with a tough loss to the eighth seeded Chelsey Gullickson of Georgia, 6-3, 6-1.
Hein and McKenna will now advance to the second round of NCAA Doubles competition tomorrow, May 22, where they will face tenth seeded Marrit Boonstra and Joanna Mather of Florida at 5:30 p.m.
