Women's swimming sends eight to NCAA
Eight Sun Devils will head to Austin, Texas on Mar. 17-19 to compete in the 2011 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Texas swimming facility.
ASU has two swimmers returning to the NCAA Championships in Rebecca Edjervik and Jordyn Green. Swimmers Caroline Kuczynski, Shannon Landgrebe, Tristin Baxter, Katie Haron, Cassie Morrice and Kelli Kylewill be competing in the championships for the first time.
Edjervik is seeded third in the 100 Breaststroke with a qualifying time of 58.90. Last year Edjervik won the Pac-10 Championship and placed sixth in the event at NCAA Championships with a time of 59.90, making her All-American honors. She will also be competing in the 200 Breaststroke where she is seeded 24th with a qualifying time of 2:10.81 behind teammate Green. Last year Edjervik clocked a time of 2:13.43 in the event at NCAA Championships.
Green qualified for the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:10.68, ranking her 23rd in the event. This will be her second time competing in the event at the NCAA Championships.
Kuczynski is seeded 16th in the 100 Butterfly with a qualifying time of 52.52. She is also seeded 19th in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 1:56.78. This will be her first time competing in the event at the NCAA Championships. Last week she recorded a season-best time of 53.71 in the 100 Butterfly at the Pac-10 Championships. She will also be competing in the 500 Free.
Landgrebe will compete in the 200 Freestyle where she is seeded 17th with a time of 1:45.26. She will also be competing in the 50 and 100 Freestyle events. This is her first time competing at the NCAA Championships.
Baxter will compete in the 1650 Freestyle, where she is seeded 26th with a time of 16:14.39. The freshman has also been invited to compete in the 200 Butterfly where she will compete against teammate Caroline Kuczynski and in the 500 Freestyle where she will compete against teammate Cassandra Morrice. This is Baxter’s first collegiate season.
Morrice is seeded 23rd in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:44.81. She will also be competing in the 200 Freestyle along with teammate Shannon Landgrebe.
Kyle will be competing in the 100 Backstroke where she is ranked 34th in the event with a time of 53.33.
The ASU women swimmers will compete in four relays including the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays and the 200 and 400 Medley Relays. ASU is seeded tenth in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3:33.87 and 15th in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:38.31.
Last year ASU placed 22nd at the NCAA Championships.
