Women's swimming announces 2008-09 recruiting class


<p>The Arizona State women's swimming team has finalized the 2008-09 recruiting class, announced today head coach <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-swim/mtt/chasson_michael00.html">… Chasson</a>. Five student-athletes have signed letters of intent to study and compete at Arizona State. The 2008-09 recruiting class includes Rebecca Ejdervik, Jordyn Green, Trudi Maree, Sasha Stephens and Penelope Yamauchi.</p><separator></separator><p>Ejdervik will come to Tempe from Vallentuna, Sweden. A member of the Swedish National Team, Ejdervik will compete in the breaststroke events for the Sun Devils. She has clocked in times of 31.54 in the 50 breast and 1:09.39 in the 100 breast. Both times are long course. Ejdervik finaled in the 50 breast at the Short Course World Championships in Melbourne, Australia in 2007.</p><separator></separator><p>Green joins the Sun Devils as another breaststroke specialist. The Reno, Nev., native has qualified for the U.S. Olympic trials in the 100 and 200 breast. She is a four-time state champion in the 100 breast and is also the Nevada record-holder in the event. Green also won the 200 IM at the Nevada High School State Championships this season. She has clocked in personal bests of 1:12.57 in the 100 breast (LCM) and 2:34.72 in the 200 breast (LCM). Green is a graduate from Reno High School and swims with the Reno Aquatic Club.</p><separator></separator><p>A native of Bloemfontein, South Africa, Maree transfers to ASU from Florida International. Maree will compete in the freestyle sprints for the Sun Devils. She placed second in the 50 free, eighth in the 100 fly, fourth in the 50 fly and third in the 100 free at the 2008 Telkom South African Aquatic Championships. Her top time in the 50 free (LCM) is 26.16.</p><separator></separator><p>Sasha Stephens will join the ASU team from Dana Point, Calif. A graduate of Dana Hills High School, Stephens will look to help the Sun Devils out in the backstroke events. She placed fifth in the 100 back at the CIF SS Championships. Stephens has clocked in top times of 55.74 in the 100 back (SCY) and 1:59.23 in the 200 back (SCY) and swims with the Mission Viejo Nadadores.</p><separator></separator><p> The Sun Devils final recruit for the 2008-09 class is Yamauchi. Yamauchi, one of the most versatile high school swimmers, will likely compete in the individual medley and breast events. She is the 200 IM CIF North Coast champion and placed second in the &quot;C&quot; final at the 2008 USA Short Course National Championships. The Montgomery High School graduate's top times include 1:03.41 in the 100 breast (SCY), 2:14.39 in the 200 breast (SCY), 2:00.98 in the 200 IM (SCY), 4:18.63, 1:03.41 in the 100 breast (SCY) and 2:14.39 in the 200 breast (SCY), in the 400 IM (SCY). Yamauchi swims for the Santa Rosa Neptunes.</p>
