Women's golf honored by Golf World in Mid-Season Awards
The Arizona State women's golf team earned numerous mid-season honors from Golf World. Junior Anna Nordqvist was named Player of the (Mid) Year and reigning NCAA champion Azahara Munoz also earned Mid-Season All-American honors. The team was named honorable mention for Team of the (Mid) Year as was head coach Melissa Luellen for honorable mention Coach of the (Mid) Year.
With one tournament win at the Derby and one runner-up finish at the NCAA Fall Preview, Nordqvist finished the fall season with a 70.44 stroke average. The Swede shot under par in seven of the nine rounds she played in the fall season. Munoz earned mid-year recognition for finishing the fall season with a 71.56 stroke average and two top-five finishes, including tying for second at the Derby.
After winning two of the three tournaments they played in during the fall, the team was named honorable mention for Team of the (Mid) Year. Seventh year head coach Luellen was also honored as honorable mention for Coach of the (Mid) Year. The Sun Devils came from behind to win the NCAA Fall Preview in September. At The Derby, the team breezed past the competition, besting the second place Virginia by 18 strokes.
The Sun Devils return to action in February at the Northrop Grumman Regional in Palos Verdes, Calif. The team's roster will be complete for the first time this season as Spanish standout Carlota Ciganda and Italian Giulia Molinaro will join the team.
