Weber, Bolden named freshman All-Americans by Sporting News
TEMPE, Ariz. - The Sporting News released its 2007 Freshman All-American Teams Friday with two Arizona State University players earning recognition for their rookie campaigns. Thomas Weber, the 2007 Lou Groza Award recipient, was selected as the first team kicker while Omar Bolden was an honorable mention selection at defensive back.
Weber, a redshirt freshman from Downey, Calif., set an ASU record by making the first 17 field goal attempts of his career. Weber is 22-for-23 on field goals, including a 53-yarder and the game-winner against Washington State. He is the Pac-10's leading scorer, averaging 9.0 points per game. The honor from TSN is the sixth All-America accolade attained by Weber this season.
Bolden, from Ontario, Calif., finished the regular season with 28 tackles and one interception, which he returned 29 yards for a touchdown against Stanford. Bolden also has been named a First Team Freshman All-American by Scout.com as well as second team by two other publications.
Next up for the Sun Devils is a trip to the 2007 Pacific Life Holiday Bowl on December 27 in San Diego, Calif., where ASU will face Texas.
