Water polo places seventh at Stanford Invitational

The ninth-ranked water polo team took seventh place at the Stanford Invitational Feb. 7 following an 11-3 victory over No. 7 San Jose State. The Sun Devils' victory came just a few hours after losing by one goal to No. 5 UCLA.

ASU jumped out to a six-goal lead at halftime after scoring three goals in the first quarter and four in the second. After going scoreless in the third frame, they added four more goals in the fourth to win, 11-3.

Junior attacker Lynlee Smith recorded her second hat trick of the season against the Spartans, while centers freshman Shannon Haas and senior Kari Walsh each netted a pair of goals to garner their second multiple goal game of the year. Sophomore goalie Dana Harvey collected 10 saves in the game.

The Sun Devils don't return to action until Feb. 27-28, when they travel to Irvine, Calif., for the UC Irvine Invitational.
