Water polo nabs fifth straight victory

The sixth-ranked women's water polo team continued their offensive outburst in the final game of the Cal Lutheran Spring Classic March 7 with a 17-6 win over No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer. Junior center Nikki Unbehaun netted four goals to lead the Sun Devils (11-5, 0-0).

ASU took an 11-3 lead into halftime, then added four goals in the third quarter to stretch their advantage to 11. The Sun Devils added a pair of scores in the final frame to earn their seventh double-digit victory of the season.

Eleven Sun Devil players notched a goal in the game, including senior center Kelly Phelps, and junior attackers Lynlee Smith and Sarah Harris, who each found the back of the net twice. Senior goalie Taylor Greenberg recorded eight saves in the win.

The Sun Devils open MPSF conference play March 13 at UCLA. ASU will face the Bruins at 1:00 p.m. (PST) in Los Angeles before playing a non-conference match March 14 against Long Beach State at 12:00 p.m. (PST) in Long Beach, Calif.
