The seventh-ranked women's water polo team defeated Santa Clara 11-4 March 28 in their fourth and final game of the ASU Invitational at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe. The Sun Devils (15-9, 0-4) were led by juniors Lynlee Smith and Nikki Unbehaun, who each recorded a hat trick in the win.

ASU gave up a quick goal to the Broncos in the beginning of the match, but junior attacker Sarah Harris answered less than two minutes later with the first of her two goals. Senior attacker Bonnie Miles added a goal in the final 30 seconds of the opening quarter to give the Sun Devils a 2-1 lead.

Unbehaun and sophomore attacker Annabelle Carter each found the back of the net in the second quarter to push ASU's advantage to two at intermission.

Four different ASU players recorded a goal in the third frame, including freshman center Shannon Haas, who scored at least once in all four games of the invitational and finished the weekend with eight goals. Smith scored a pair in the final period and Unbehaun added another to close out the Sun Devils' fifteenth win of the season.

Freshman goalie Amanda Young made her fourth start of the weekend and finished with two saves in two quarters of play, while sophomore Dana Harvey collected six saves in the second half.
