Ward and Munoz finish in Top 20 at U.S. Women's Open

Two former members of the Arizona State women's golf team finished in the top 20 at the 2010 U.S. Women's Open. Sun Devil great Wendy Ward carded 8-over 292 (72-73-70-77) to tie for 14th while Azahara Munoz tied for 19th at 19-over 294 (75-74-71-74).

Ward has placed in the top 20 twice this season. Munoz currently leads the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year Race and her top 20 finish helped widen the gap. This is Munoz' second top 20 finish at a major this season and fourth overall. Both Ward and Munoz earned their degrees from ASU.

Jennifer Johnson, who recently announced she would leave ASU to turn professional after one season, was the top amateur finisher. The California native tied for 41st after shooting 16-over 300 (78-73-71-78). Heather Young, who spent two seasons at ASU before finishing her collegiate career at Texas, also tied for 41st. Louise Stahle also made the cut at the U.S. Women's Open. She finished tied for 48th, carding 17-over 301 (73-74-81-73).

Anna Nordqvist and Juliana Murcia also competed at the U.S. Women's Open but did not make the cut. This is the first time Nordqvist did not make the cut in her professional career. As a side note, Murcia, who earned her B.A. in Art in May from ASU, will wait to turn professional until after the World Amateur in October.
