Volleyball unable to hold off No. 15 Cal


<p>Berkeley, Calif. – <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/mtt/reaves_sarah00.html">S… Reaves</a> 14 kills and Cat Highmark’s 25 assists weren’t enough Sunday afternoon as the Sun Devil Volleyball team fell in a tough 25-18, 25-17, 25-13 match to the 15th-ranked Cal Golden Bears. The loss drops ASU to 11-10 on the year and 1-8 in conference play while Cal improves to 12-7 overall and 5-4 in the Pac-10.</p><separator></separator><p>Set one saw the Sun Devils hit a solid .321 with 12 kills, led by Sarah Reaves’ four and Sofie Schlagintweit’s three, but the Bears came out swinging the hammer as they threw down an amazing .576 attack percentage as Hana Cutura was unstoppable with eight kills in the set to lead the Bears to a 25-18 win. <br /><br />Set two saw the Cal D step it up as they posted five blocks in the set to stifle the Sun Devil offense, while the Cal attack remained just as vicious with a .394 percentage with Cutura again swinging for the fences with eight kills again to rattle off a 25-17 win to take two headed into the break. <br /><br />Set three ASU just couldn’t seem to put it together, with 10 unforced errors throwing the team off-kilt, which Cal took full advantage of, while hitting .341 and posting up five blocks to run off with a 25-13 win in the third set to complete the <br /><br />The Sun Devils now return home to face  Washington State and Washington next Friday and Saturday night in Tempe at Wells Fargo Arena.</p>
