Volleyball sweeps UC Riverside
With Sarah Reaves and Alexis Pinson combining for 24 kills and Sarah Johnson pulling in 22 digs, the Sun Devil Volleyball team came out firing on all cylinders to sweep UC Riverside 25-16, 25-21 and 25-19 Sunday afternoon. The win pushes ASU to 10-13 with UCR falling to 2-23 on the season with Pac-10 play continuing full swing next weekend.
Erica Wilson led the attack in set one hitting a perfect 1.000 with three kills which Sarah Reaves and Danica Mendivil matched while the defense put up a brick wall at the net with five blocks. As a whole, the Sun Devils put together a .290 attack percentage while holding UCR to a .118 percentage en route to a 25-16 win.
Set two saw Alexis Pinson and Sarah Reaves explode for a five kills each and .500 and .455 attack percentages to lead ASU with Reaves adding an ace and block assist as a cherry on top as ASU battled off eight tie scores and four lead changes to take off with a 25-21 win and head into the break up 2-0.
The Sun Devils came out determined to put it away in three swinging a red-hot .343 fueled with Alexis Pinson’s .667 swinging and five block assists as ASU shook off the five tie scores in the set to run off with a 25-19 win to complete the sweep.
The Sun Devils hit the hardwood again next weekend as they gear up to host the Oregon State Beavers and Oregon Ducks next Friday and Saturday night in Tempe at Wells Fargo Arena.
