Volleyball rips through day one of Holly Young Invitational

The Sun Devil Volleyball team came to play Friday afternoon as they hit .333 on the day to open the Holly Young Invitational with a 25-16, 25-15, 25-7 sweep of the Harvard Crimson. Sarah Reaves led the attack with 10 kills while Katie Crosby guided the offense with 34 assists to push ASU to 8-2 on the year while dropping Harvard to 2-6.

The Sun Devils came out ready to rumble in the first set as they swung a .286 average with Paige Mittelstaedt hitting .500 in the set while collecting two block assists with Camri Zwiesler to hold down the D. ASU capitalized on Harvard’s lack of control as well as the Crimson put up nine attack errors and three service errors to take off with the 25-16 win.

Coming out in set two ASU hit .375 with Sarah Reaves putting away six for the maroon & gold while Sofie Schlaginetweit showed some stellar D with eight digs a solo block and two block assists as the ASU line held for four blocks in the set to hold Harvard to an .026 attack percentage.

The Sun Devils left no room for doubt in the third set, with three total blocks and a .333 attack percentage to the Crimson’s -.125 with Paige Mittelsaedt’s four kills leading the way to the 25-7 rout in the third set to put the sweep in the bag for the Sun Devils.

Head Coach Jason Watson commented on the match, stating, "I felt we played an efficient match. We still have work to do, in some details on our side of the net, but in all it was a nice start to the tournament."
