Volleyball to open the door on Pac-10 slate hosting Washington and Washington State

The Arizona State Sun Devil Women’s Volleyball Team (9-4 overall, 0-0 Pac-10) will kick open the door on their 2008 conference slate this weekend as the Sun Devils gear up to take on Pac-10 foes, the ninth-ranked Washingon Huskies on Friday, September 26 at 7 p.m. and the Washington State Cougars on Saturday, September 27 at 3 p.m. on Fox Sports. Both games will be played in Tempe at ASU’s Wells Fargo Arena.
Special This Week Only:
This Friday is Sparky’s Kids to College Night with free admission for all registered youth organizations. In addition Sun Devil Volleyball will be hosting Family Night on Friday night with $10 admission for the entire family (up to 5 people). Friday will showcase the honoring of an ASU Volleyball legend in the making as prior to the start of the ASU vs. Washington match, senior outside hitter Margie Giordano will be honored for her career accolades, which include her recent achievement of entering the 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs club, which only seven others in ASU history have done.
Saturday in addition to being aired live on Fox Sports College is Youth Day where members of local junior high, elementary, club team or youth organization will receive discounted admission when they wear their club or school volleyball shirt. In addition ASU Volleyball will host Camper Reunion day where campers can wear their ASU Volleyball Camp t-shirt and receive a discounted admission.

Recapping Last Weekend:
Against Albany:
A .273 team attack percentage and 10 team blocks steadied the ASU gameplan as they collected a 3-2 win over the Albany Great Danes. The Sun Devils came out solid in sets one and two before losing the pace a bit in three and four as the Danes made a match of it. Sarah Reaves killed 19 and Margie Giordano killed 20, both totals tie their third-highest career match total. Possibly more important in the match was the Devil D where Sonja Markanovich and Sara Todorovich both tallied five block assists and Sarah Johnson digging 22 balls as the underclassmen lead the fight against the Great Danes with ASU winning 25-14, 25-19, 8-25, 22-25 and 15-10.
Against Western Kentucky:
The match started off well for ASU as they hit .356 to take set one 25-23 from the Lady Toppers. WKU rallied back hard in the second set, but ASU capitalized on errors and were able to snake away a 26-24 win to go 2-0 into the break. The Hilltoppers weren’t to be denied though as they fl ipped the switch and took advantage of ASU’s errors to gut out a 25-23 win in set three. In another exact switch WKU took a 26-24 win in the fourth to tie it up with a whopping .351 team attack percentage. ASU didn’t roll over though as they pushed six tie scores and four lead changes in the fifth set, but ultimately fell 15-12.
Against No. 25 Michigan:
The Wolverines entered the match with an unblemished 11-0 record where they came out swinging in the first set with a .318 attack percentage to take set one 25-19. ASU fired up for the second set though an crushed a .327 team attack percentage to push the Wolverines to extras and snake away with a 27-25 win to push it to an even 1-1 tie at the break. ASU bettered Michigan’s .234 attack average in set three, but errors hurt the Sun Devils and cost them the set as they pushed Michigan to the limit, but were just edged 27-25. Set four saw ASU run out of steam as the Wolverines stepped up to close out the win 25-16.
