Volleyball keeps streak alive with win over Washington State

TEMPE, Ariz. - The ASU Volleyball team continued their winning ways on Thursday night thanks to Margie Giordano's 16 kills and Sara Todorovich's Pac-10 season match-high five solo blocksĀ as they grabbed their third consecutive Pac-10 win, downing Washington State in four games, 30-22, 28-30, 30-22 and 31-29. The Sun Devils are now 14-11 overall and an even 6-6 in conference play as Washington State falls to 9-16 and 0-11 in the Pac-10.

Game one saw both teams come out even paced, but after eight tie scores and two lead changes the Sun Devils finally pulled away for good to take a 30-22 win with Sarah Reaves and Margie Giordano pairing up for six kills.

Game two saw the Cougars surge back with Jackie Albright leading WSU with five kills and backed by Tara West and Brittany Johnson's four apiece to just barely edge ASU 30-28. Sara Todorovich and Danielle Fernandes both had four kills apiece in the game, with Washington State just barely topping ASU's kill total 17-16.

Game three saw ASU surge back with a team .308 attack percentage with Margie Giordano exploding for nine kills. WSU's Jackie Albright was right on Giordano's heels with six kills, but the effort wasn't enough as ASU took the game 30-22.

Game four saw the teams square off in another tough battle with Sarah Reaves grabbing six kills and Danielle Fernandes grabbing five, with Staci Smith's two solo blocks coming in key for the Sun Devils as they came from behind to just barely edged the Cougars 31-29 and take the match.

The Sun Devils hit the court again tomorrow night to try and keep their streak alive as they take on the No. 4 Washington Huskies in Tempe at Wells Fargo Arena. Game time is at 7 p.m.
