Volleyball falls to Washington
Sofie Schlagintweit, Camri Zwiesler and Margie Giordano teamed up to lead the attack Saturday night, combining for 15 of ASU’s kills against the fifth-ranked Huskies of Washington. The effort fell shy though as UW won 25-12, 25-21 and 25-18 to push their record to 24-4 overall and 15-3 in conference play as the Sun Devils wrap their 2008 season with a 13-18 record and a 4-14 Pac-10 standing.
The first set saw Washington hit an outstanding .500 with Jill Collymore collecting five kills and the Husky defense getting it done with six blocks to stifle the Sun Devils offense. ASU couldn’t seem to collect their bearings though through the match as 10 unforced errors paved the way for the Huskies to cruise to a 25-12 win.
The second set saw ASU come back with some more life as they grabbed 14 kills with freshman Sofie Schlagintweit leading the pack with five for a .444 attack percentage. Errors and blocks caught up with ASU again though this time with seven errors and UW grabbing 15 kills with a .238 attack percentage to take set two 25-21.
Margie Giordano led the offense in the third set with four kills and a .444 attack percentage, but the Sun Devils just couldn’t put it together in the set with eight unforced errors while Washington slipped by with six errors and a .222 attack percentage and three players collecting four kills apiece as UW closed out the match and the win with a 25-18 final.
The match wraps the Sun Devils’ 2008 campaign.
