September 27, 2007

TEMPE, Ariz. - With a well-fought effort overall from the Sun Devils and a career-high 28 kills from Sarah Reaves coupled with Marina Mercer's 72 assists the ASU Volleyball team rallied for a tough match against the #21 Oregon Ducks, but ultimately fell 3-1. The final scores read 30-23, 40-42, 30-25 and 32-30 in favor of the Ducks with ASU pushing the Ducks to extra points in two games. The Sun Devils fall to an even 8-8 and 0-3 in conference play with Oregon advancing to 13-2 and 2-1 in the Pac-10.

Game one saw the Ducks come out blasting a .357 attack percentage to take a 30-23 lead while being led by Gorana Maricic's seven kills. Game two was a different story though as ASU came back with a .333 attack average as Margie Giordano grabbed 10 kills and Marina Mercer helped lead the offense with 30 assists to edge the Ducks in a back and forth 42-40 win.

Game three saw the Ducks kick it back into gear as they took advantage of ASU's 12 errors to grab the 30-25 win. Game four saw ASU come back strong with a .243 attack average and push the Ducks into extra points, but the effort wasn't enough as Oregon barely edged away 32-20 to wrap the match.

Next up the Sun Devils will remain home as they set to take on the Oregon State Beavers tomorrow night in Tempe. The game will start at 7 p.m. in ASU's Wells Fargo Arena.
