Volleyball falls to #9 Cal 3-1

TEMPE, Ariz. - Even with after coming out with a strong start and Margie Giordano's 23 kills, the Sun Devil Volleyball team was unable to top the ninth-ranked Cal Golden Bears falling in four games 27-30, 30-26, 30-20 and 30-26. The Sun Devils are now 11-10 overall and 3-5 in conference play as the Golden Bears advance to 15-4 and 5-3 in the Pac-10.

Game one saw the Sun Devils come out to play, as they rocked out a 30-27 win over the Golden Bears with Sarah Reaves leading the way with eight kills and a .222 attack percentage as Marina Mercer set the tone with 15 assists.

Game two saw Cal rally back with a .309 team attack percentage with Angie Pressley holding down the offense with 13 kills. Alison Lund dug five attacks for ASU which Margie Giordano matched in number in kills, but the effort wasn't enough as Cal took the game 30-26.

Game three saw Margie Giordano rally for seven kills, but Cal's .425 team attack percentage was too much for the Devils as Angie Pressley and Morgan Beck combined for 11 of Cal's 21 kills as the Golden Bears took the game 30-20.

The Sun Devils rallied back in game four, tying the score three times and taking the lead twice but Cal barely edged them again as Morgan Beck's five kills lifted them to a 30-26 win and their 15th win of the season.

Up next, the Sun Devils will face the #3 Stanford Cardinal on their home court tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at ASU's Wells Fargo Arena.
