Volleyball completes third Pac-10 series sweep with win over Arizona


TUCSON, Ariz. - Powered with Sarah Reaves and Margie Giordano's combined 31 kills; the Sun Devil Volleyball team notched another series sweep Wednesday night as they topped their rival, Arizona 30-28, 30-28 and 30-27. The Sun Devils thus far this season have swept three Pac-10 foes, Oregon State, Washington State and Arizona en route to their current record of 15-12 overall and 7-7 in conference play. The `Cats fall to 13-13 overall and 3-11 in the Pac-10.

Game one saw Reaves lead the offense with six kills with three Devils following behind with four kills apiece while Sydney Donahue pulled in seven digs, followed with Sarah Reaves' five. The `Cats put up a fight though, tying the score 12 times and taking the lead six behind Dominique Lamb's five kills, the Sun Devils rallied back though, to take the game 30-28. 

Game two saw the `Cats' Tiffany Owens have a break-out game with nine kills for a whopping .643 attack percentage in a game which saw the `Cats as a team hit a higher attack percentage, but pure grit kept the Sun Devils in it as the `Cats battled for the lead, and eventually tied it at 28 apiece before a Sarah Reaves service ace and a costly Wildcat error awarded the game to ASU with another 30-28 win.

Game three saw ASU land a huge .500 team attack percentage as Marina Mercer collected 16 assists with six kills to Sarah Reaves and five to Margie Giordano. The `Cats didn't slack though as they posted a .308 team attack percentage and tied the score 13 times before the Sun Devils stormed back from a 27-26 deficit with four straight points to shut the door and complete the sweep.

Up next, the Sun Devils travel to the Bay Area next weekend to take on the Stanford Cardinal and California Golden Bears. ASU will face the Cardinal in Palo Alto on Friday, November 16 and the Golden Bears Saturday, November 17 in Berkeley, Calif. Both matches are set to start at 7 p.m.
