Volleyball blasts by No. 16 Oregon


<p>EUGENE, Ore. - <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/mtt/giordano_margie00.html… Giordano</a> and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/mtt/reaves_sarah00.html">S… Reaves</a> both had 18 kills Friday night coupled with <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/mtt/mercer_marina00.html">… Mercer&#39;s</a> 53 assists as the Sun Devil Volleyball team upset the #16 Oregon Ducks to complete the weekend sweep topping Oregon 3-1. The Sun Devils won 30-23, 30-28, 22-30 and 30-24 en route to their current 13-11 overall record and 5-6 Pac-10 record. The Ducks fall to 16-7 overall and 5-6 in conference play as well.</p><separator></separator><p>Game one was saw the Sun Devils take the lead and never look back as it was all <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/mtt/reaves_sarah00.html">S… Reaves</a> who came back from injury for the game to grab six kills in the first game for a .364 attack percentage. The Ducks were no easy match though as Gorana Maricic compiled eight of Oregon&#39;s 15 kills in the game. The effort by the Ducks wasn&#39;t enough though as ASU took game one 30-23. </p><separator></separator><p>Game two the Ducks battled back hard with nine tie scores and four lead changes as both teams fought back and forth for the win, with <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/mtt/giordano_margie00.html… Giordano</a> helping the Devils to just edge the Ducks with her seven kills en route to their 30-28 win.</p><separator></separator><p>The ranked Ducks didn&#39;t go quietly though as they came out in game three to hit .341 as a team with Gorana Maricic and Heather Meyers both grabbing six kills as they topped ASU 30-22 to force a fourth game.</p><separator></separator><p>The Sun Devils made sure there was no need for a fifth game though hitting .260 as a team, backed by <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/mtt/reaves_sarah00.html">S… Reaves</a> with her seven kills for a .353 average as <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/mtt/mercer_marina00.html">… Mercer</a> quarterbacked the offense with 14 assists to shut the door on the Ducks and give ASU the match with a 30-24 win. </p><separator></separator><p>The Sun Devils return to their home court next weekend as they set to face the Washington State Cougars and #4 Washington Huskies on Thursday, November 1 and Friday, November 2. Both games will be held at 7 p.m. at ASU&#39;s Wells Fargo Arena.</p>
