Two Sun Devils place in Top 10 as women's golf finishes fourth at the NCAA Fall Preview
The Arizona State women's golf team capped their fall season with a fourth place finish at the NCAA Fall Preview/Landfall Tradition. Held at the par 72, 6,325-yard Pete Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall, the Sun Devils carded a 25-over 889 (293-299-297). Duke won the tournament after shooting a 17-over 881 (296-297-288) while Auburn's Cydney Clanton took medalist honors. The Sun Devils were without the services of returning All-American senior Juliana Murcia who pulled out due to illness.
"I was proud of our four girls today, they hung in there," said eighth year head coach Melissa Luellen. "It's hard to play with just four; they are a bunch of competitors. The conditions on the course were tough, especially today. We liked the course and we learned quite it about it. We will be ready for it in May."
Carlota Ciganda notched her ninth top-10 finish of her career, as the All-American tied for seventh. The Spaniard finished 2-over 218 (68-74-76) to close out the fall season. Three tournaments down, three top-10 performances made, Jennifer Johnson shot a 3-over 219 (73-71-75) over the three-day tournament to finish tied for 10th.
Junior Jaclyn Sweeney shot 9-over 225 (74-75-76) to tie for 30th. With the Sun Devils' low score of the day, Giulia Molinaro recorded her best round of the tournament with 2-under 70. She finished tied for 38th after shooting an 11-over 227 (78-79-70).
"Giulia worked on her attitude," said Luellen on the sophomore. "She was a positive player out there today."
