Three Sun Devil men's golfers ready for U.S. Amateur

<p><a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-golf/spec-rel/082900aaa.html/">Cl… here for the official site of the U.S. Amateur</a></p><separator></separator><p><a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-golf/spec-rel/082900aaa.html/">Cl… here to read about ASU's last U.S. Amateur winner</a></p><separator></separator><p>Three Sun Devil men's golfers will be competing with 309 others in the 2009 U.S. Amateur next week (Aug. 24-30) when it begins play at the Southern Hills Country Club and Cedar Ridge Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.</p><separator></separator><p><a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-golf/mtt/fletcher_spencer00.html"… Fletcher</a> tied for third at the Peninsula Golf and Country Club in San Mateo, Calif., on July 27 while <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-golf/mtt/bierenbroodspot_tristan0… Bierenbroodspot</a> finished second at sectional qualifying held Aug. 3 in Boulder, Colo., at the Boulder Country Club to punch his ticket. <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-golf/mtt/kennegard_jesper00.html"… Kennegard</a> earned an exemption with his eighth-place finish at the World Amateur held in Australia in October.</p><separator></separator><p>It has been a busy week for <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-golf/mtt/lein_randy00.html">Randy Lein's</a> squad, as <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-golf/mtt/borsheim_knut00.html">Kn… Borsheim</a> won the Norwegian Open last weekend, while <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-golf/mtt/byrne_james00.html">James Byrne</a> is competing in the European Amateur this weekend.</p><separator></separator><p>Southern Hills has a rich history of major championships. It has hosted 14 major championships: three U.S. Open Championships (1958, 1977, 2001), an unprecedented four PGA Championships (1970, 1982, 1994, 2007), a USGA Women's Amateur Championship (1946), a USGA Junior Amateur Championship (1953), a USGA Senior Amateur Championship (1961), a USGA Amateur Championship (1965), a USGA Women's Mid Amateur Championship (1987) and two Tour Championships (1994, 1995). The field is cut to the low 64 players for match play after Tuesday's round. Match play begins on Wednesday and continues until the 36-hole final on Sunday.</p><separator></separator><p>The 2010 U.S. Amateur will be held at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash., August 23-29, 2010.</p>
