Three Sun Devil golfers in top five after round two of World Amateur
Three members of the Arizona State women's golf team are in the top five after round two of the 2008 World Amateur Team Championships held at the Grange Golf Club in Adelaide, Australia. Anna Nordqvist, Carlota Ciganda and Azahara Munoz finished day two in the top-five. Nordqvist's Swedish team is currently in first at 15-under 275 (137-138) while Spain's team, which includes Ciganda, Munoz and USC's Belen Mozo, is in second at 7-under 283 (145-138).
Nordqvist maintained her second-place standing and helped keep Sweden in first. The junior All-American has carded a 7-under 138 (70-68) over the first two rounds. She shot a 4-under 68 in the second round, carding one eagle, three birdies and one bogey. She is one shot off leader and fellow Swede Caroline Hedwall.
Incoming freshman Ciganda surged into third place after finishing the first day tied for 31st. Ciganda, playing for her native Spain, shot a 4-under 141 over the two rounds round to jump up 28 spots. She recorded eight birdies and only one bogey to card a 7-under 66, the second-lowest second round individual score in the championship history.
Munoz finished round two in fifth place. The reigning NCAA Champion has recorded a 2-under 143 (71-72) over the two rounds. She shot a 1-under 72 in the second round, carding two birdies and one bogey.
Junior Juliana Murcia moved up 17 spots to finish tied for 53rd. Murcia has shot a 9-over 154 (78-76) over the first two rounds. Colombia is currently tied for 14th at 10-over 300 (154-146) Incoming freshman Giulia Molinaro slipped to 64th after shooting a 6-over 79 in the second round. She finished day two at 10-over 155. Italy is tied for 24th at 17-over 307 (151-156).
