Ten ASU Soccer players named to Pac-10 All-Academic Team


Ten members of the Arizona State women's soccer program earned Pac-10 All-Academic honors, according to an announcement by the conference office on Thursday.

Included among the 10 players were three first-team members - junior Liz Harkin, sophomore Alexandra Elston and redshirt freshman Erica Long - and one second team member - sophomore Karin Volpe.

ASU's three first-team players tied Stanford for the most in the Pac-10 Harkin, who holds 3.90 GPA in biology & society, was named to the first team for the second consecutive season while Elston (4.04 GPA/exploratory) and Long (3.96/journalism and mass communication) both earned first-team honors in their first year of eligibility.

Volpe, the lone Sun Devil on the second team, has a 3.59 GPA (exploratory). The Sun Devils also had six student-athletes named to the honorable mention list: Graduate student Carla Scanniello (second time earning honorable mention honors); senior Kylla SjomanCarly Kallas and Briana Silvestri (both earned honorable mention honors for the second consecutive season) and sophomores Jessie Richardson and Jill Shoquist, who were both named to the list in their first year of eligibility. To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor to the team.
