Team USA and ASU wrestling partner for training camp

July 11, 2008

The Riches Wrestling Complex on the Arizona State University campus has been the home of USA Wrestling's men's freestyle team for the past eighth days as five of the six Olympians that will represent the United States trained ahead of their trip to the Beijing Summer Games.

The Complex saw Team USA work on technique and conditioning with members of the Sun Devil program on hand to train with the USA's representitives to the Games. While many wore red, white or blue USA Wrestling shirts, others wore the Save ASU Wrestling shirts that signify the battle the Sun Devils are embarking on this summer as they look to fully endow their program (visit for more information on donating and ways you can help the program).

Olympic coach Kevin Jackson brought his team to the Valley of the Sun with help from Sunkist Kids Wrestling and the Sun Devils. During their time in Tempe, Team USA also visited the Nap & Barbara Lawrence Weight & Strength Center to hit the weights and continue to push toward Olympic gold next month.

The team that will represent the United States and that was on hand in Tempe included local product Henry Cejudo (55kg/120 lbs.), Ben Askren (74kg/163 lbs.), Andy Hrovat (84kg/185 lbs.), Daniel Cormier (96kg/211.5 lbs.) and Steve Mocco (120kg/264.5 lbs.). Doug Schwab (66kg/145.5 lbs.), who also will represent the U.S., was not on hand for the training camp. Other coaches that were on hand to assist in the training included Olympic coaches Kerry McCoy and Lee Kemp with help from Tom Brands and Melvin Douglas.
