Swimming tops NAU in final nonconference meet
The 26th ranked Arizona State women’s swimming and dive teams out swam instate foe Northern Arizona, besting the Lumberjacks in a dual meet at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center Saturday morning.
The Sun Devils took first place in 10 of the 11 swimming events and finished first and second in the one-meter dive. Paced by the 400-medley relay of Kelli Kyle, Rebecca Ejdervik, Lizzy Luttrell and Katie Haron, the ASU women’s swim team blistered the competition. The ASU ‘A’ relay finished with a first-place time of 3:49.73, almost six second ahead of the second place relay.
Hailey Casper took first place in the one-meter dive, scoring a 293.70, while teammate Brittany Jumer finished in second place with a score of 274.43.
With a one, two, three finish, Shannon Landgrebe, Kallie Golden, and Karima Chuk dominated the 200 free. Landgrebe finished first in the event with a time of 1:50.99.
Cassie Morrice touched in a 10:05.00 for first place in the women's 1000 free followed by fellow Sun Devil Shannon Garrett who recorded a time of 10:19.91. Morrice also took first place in the 100 free with a time of 51.38.
Coach Dorsey Tierney-Walker's squad has had a strong showing during the fall season, most notably finishing in third place at the Arena Invitational behind conference rivals Stanford and California. One of the biggest meets of the season, the field for the invitational featured 17 teams including San Diego State and UCLA.
The meet against NAU concludes the 2010 competition season for ASU. The Sun Devils will open the Pac-10 schedule against Oregon State on January 8, 2011 at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.
